Marjorie de Loynes Lange ’50

Marjorie de Loynes LangeMy life would have been very different without Barnard. I completed high school in three and a half years and still remember getting my acceptance to the College. I was thrilled.

After graduating, I received a fundraising message from Barnard asking alumnae to help students pay for college and I thought, I can do that. I established the Marjorie de Loynes Lange ’50 Scholarship for students with an interest in music, and volunteered to be an alumna fundraiser for Barnard. In addition to the scholarship I established, I also supported other scholarships and fundraising efforts, including the Diana Center campaign. Barnard has come far in increasing student support and improving student life, which I know will continue to be College priorities.

I always knew I would remember Barnard in my estate plans. After attending a talk by an estate lawyer, I created a revocable living trust. This enables current management of my assets and they will bypass probate. In honor of my mother, I have designated a share of my trust to Barnard to establish the Lucette Dumoutier Lange Endowed Scholarship Fund. Additionally, I designated Barnard as a beneficiary of my insurance policy and documented with the College my wishes to fund the Marjorie de Loynes Lange ’50 Scholarship.

I still keep in touch with the very first person who was a recipient of my scholarship, whom I met in 1994. I am deeply inspired by Barnard women like her—their successes and joys—and am so appreciative of the opportunities the College gave us.
